What are the symptoms that may develop?

In some people, the seizures are very easy to diagnose. These individuals have what is commonly called “grand mal” seizures. They may suddenly lose consciousness, stiffen, fall, and then have shaking of arms and legs. They may also lose control of their urine. In others, the seizures can be very subtle and are often difficult to identify. People may have periodic unexplained changes in behavior, may have memory problems that seem to come and go, may have emotional outbursts, or may have periods where they stare off into space and seem unreachable. Each of these symptoms can also be caused by other problems associated with TBI or post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and doctors may not realize that the individual is having seizures as a cause.
